Atinuke and Kingsley Nebechi win at British Book Awards 2024 @BritBookAwards

Atinuke and Kingsley Nebechi triumphed at the prestigious British Book Awards 2024, held in London on Monday, May 13th. Their captivating book, "Brilliant Black British History", won the coveted Children's Non-Fiction category, supported by The Week Junior Science and Nature.

The British Book Awards, also known as The Nibbies, celebrated a wealth of literary talent across 13 Book of the Year categories, showcasing the vibrant landscape of the publishing industry. Philip Jones, editor of The Bookseller and chair of the judges, praised the "industry at the height of its game," emphasizing the importance of words in today's world.

Alice O'Keeffe, books editor of The Bookseller and overall chair of the Books of the Year, highlighted the "rich and varied shortlists," acknowledging the difficult task the judges faced in selecting winners. 

Atinuke and Kingsley Nebechi's "Brilliant Black British History", published by Bloomsbury Children's Books, stood out for its vital exploration of Black British history. The judges lauded its accessibility and appeal to children of all ages, making it a significant contribution to children's literature. This win marks a celebration of diversity and representation in the world of books.
