Poetry trail unveiled along Sefton's Waterways in Liverpool

On May 11th, a collaborative effort between the Poetry Society and the Canal and River Trust has brought forth a captivating poetry trail in Sefton, Merseyside.

The trail features the enchanting poem "Sefton's Wonderous Waterways" by celebrated Liverpool poet Levi Tafari.

Inspired by the local community, Tafari's verses weave an intricate tapestry of words that celebrate the serene beauty and rich history of the canal. His poem has been thoughtfully inscribed along the picturesque stretch of water between Fleetwood's Lane Bridge and Netherton Swing Bridge, forming a vibrant poetry trail.

The launch of the trail was a vibrant affair, graced by the presence of eager local residents and students who had the honor of collaborating with Tafari on this poetic journey. The festivities kicked off with a performance by Foyle Young Poet Eira Murphy, whose poignant words set the stage for Tafari's energetic and humorous set.

Accompanied by the warm glow of the sun, the group embarked on a leisurely walk along the canal, immersing themselves in the transformative experience of the poetry trail. With its vibrant flowers, lush greenery, and shimmering water, the trail proved to be a true sanctuary for poetic inspiration.

For those seeking a literary adventure, the poetry trail can be easily accessed at any point between Fleetwood's Lane Bridge and Netherton Swing Bridge in Sefton, Merseyside. Ample parking is available at Harrops Croft (L30 0QP), conveniently located near the start of the trail.

To enhance the experience, an educational resource created in collaboration with poet Jess Green is available. Packed with engaging activities, it offers a delightful way to engage with the poetry and the natural surroundings.

The Poetry Society and the Canal and River Trust invite you to embark on this unique literary journey that celebrates the interweaving of art and nature in the heart of Sefton. Let the words of Levi Tafari guide you through a poetic wonderland along Sefton's Wonderous Waterways.
