Naahid Nakidien, a multi-talented Surrey Estate resident, is set to launch her debut poetry collection, "Gifts from a Whispering Soul: A Poetic Journey of Transformation," on Saturday at the Bo-Kaap Cultural Hub. This event marks a significant milestone for Nakidien, who wears many hats as a registered life coach, nursing sister, arts producer, and co-founder of O'dacity Films.
The book delves into themes of personal growth and empowerment, reflecting on Nakidien's multifaceted journey as a coach, poet, and artist. Her passion for poetry blossomed in 2004 while residing in Dubai, and although the idea of a book had been brewing for years, she finally found the courage to begin writing in November 2023.
"As a life coach, I've always used poetry as metaphors and drawn inspiration from my own poems to motivate clients," Nakidien explained. "The book felt like a natural progression, but there was also a lot of encouragement from clients, family, and friends to share my work with the world."
"Gifts from a Whispering Soul" invites readers into Nakidien's introspective exploration of her identity as a Muslim woman navigating a patriarchal society. "I hope it inspires others to delve into their own lives and embark on a journey of self-reflection, healing, and discovering their purpose," she shared.
Fatima Samsodien, office administrator at the Bo-Kaap Cultural Hub, expressed her pride in providing a platform for local self-published authors like Nakidien. The book will be available for purchase at the launch for R250, and also on Takealot and Amazon, offering a wider audience access to Nakidien's evocative poems and insightful reflections.
Signed copies can be ordered via WhatsApp on 084 661 7693.
